Glen Comrie
My professional writing career began in 1986 in my hometown of Whanganui, New Zealand. I walked into the local radio station and asked for a job as a disc jockey. They said I didn't have the voice for it (how right they were), but they were kind enough to take me on as a junior advertising copywriter.
As a radio copywriter, I worked in regional and metropolitan stations throughout New Zealand and Australia, culminating in a stint as a senior writer at the Australian Radio Network in Brisbane. By that time, in the early 2000s, I'd noticed a shift in the way many of our advertisers were promoting themselves: they began using their radio ads to invite listeners to check out their new-fangled websites. The web was where the business world was heading, and I decided to go along for the ride. After all, someone had to write the content for their websites. So, I went freelance, writing some content here, some radio there, with a few "real world" work experiences thrown in as well.
Today, I am a fulltime freelance content writer and copywriter. I work for clients all over the world from my home office in Napier, New Zealand. When I'm not writing, I like cycling Napier's bikeways, restoring furniture, exploring local wineries, reading books about anything – but you know what? It’s writing I love to do more than anything. I’d do it for nothing but local wineries don’t take IOUs.
